The top 5 defenders list for gameweek 25 has some new blood as last weekend’s action saw some impressive displays by previously ignored stoppers. Of course, some of the familiar names are still roaming about.

So, who gets into our top 5 defenders list for gameweek 25?

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

Games: 19; Clean sheets: 12; Total FPL points: 120

Marcos Alonso currently sits in second in Fantasy Premier League’s overall defensive points rankings. The Chelsea man had a stellar gameweek 24 as he scored his fourth goal of the Premier League season.

Gameweek 25 sees Chelsea take on Burnley before clashing with Swansea, West Ham, Watford, Stoke and Crystal Palace. The Blues have potential to win each game and keep a clean sheet. Alonso and company should excel in FPL gameweek 25 and beyond.

Kyle Walker – Tottenham

Games: 23; Clean sheets: 11; Total FPL points: 117

Kyle Walker has been ever-present in the FantasySports.co.uk 5 defenders list for FPL this season. The Tottenham full-back has helped keep 11 clean sheets as Spurs have allowed the fewest goals in the Premier League.

Spurs travel to Liverpool for gameweek 25, but this is a much different Liverpool team to the one that drew with Spurs in gameweek 3. Walker only played 27 minutes of that fixture before leaving with an injury.

Once Liverpool are out of the way, Spurs have plenty of chances for big points.

Lamine Kone – Sunderland

Games: 19; Clean sheets: 4; Total FPL points: 53

Have Sunderland turned the corner? The Black Cats have kept two consecutive clean sheets. Kone’s 13 point performance in gameweek 24 was his best output of the season. The defender has averaged 11 points in his last two gameweeks.

Sunderland are fighting for their lives currently, and the team have two upcoming fixtures that could completely turn their season around.

A struggling Southampton is up next in gameweek 25 with Everton to follow. Six massive points are up for grabs, Kone could be the man to lead them from the back.

Antonio Valencia – Manchester United

Games: 21; Clean sheets: 8; Total FPL points: 79

Antonio Valencia is a great, low-budget addition to your Fantasy Premier League team for gameweek 25. Manchester United are playing well and have an easy run of fixtures upcoming.

Valencia is averaging 8.5 points per match over his last two, a great addition to your side.

Chris Brunt – West Brom Albion

Games: 17; Clean sheets: 3; Total FPL points: 73

It would be easy to tell everyone to draft in Chelsea defenders, but if you can’t afford them with your outstanding midfielders and attackers, Chris Brunt is a great alternative. Brunt is averaging 8.3 point over his last three fixtures.

West Brom are highly underrated this season, and the team have a favourable run of fixtures coming up. West Ham, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are all to come in the next three gameweeks.

Bonus goalkeeper

David De Gea – Manchester United

Games: 24; Clean sheets: 9; Total FPL points: 87

David De Gea continued his stellar form against Leicester over the weekend picking up five points in a clean sheet win. Manchester United’s upcoming run of fixtures should see them dominant and De Gea should come away with a clean sheet or two.
