Liverpool vs. Tottenham: Gameweek 25 Main Event

fantasy football, fantasy sports, fpl, football, premier league

Liverpool versus Tottenham headlines gameweek 25’s fixture list. The Reds have been outstanding against Tottenham in recent meetings, and Jurgen Klopp’s team haven’t lost to Spurs in their last nine meetings.

However, things haven’t been going well for Liverpool in the last few weeks. The team have struggled mightily, and are winless in their last five in all competitions. Pressure is raining down on Klopp to turn his Liverpool side around, but the team have shown very little in the way of scoring or defending.

The Reds will make several changes for Tottenham’s visit on Saturday. British media believes Klopp will bench Simon Mignolet after recent mistakes against the likes of Chelsea and Hull. His replacement in goal will be Loris Karius, who had his own difficulties not so long ago in net.

The Reds are expected to approach Manchester City in the summer about signing Joe Hart, currently on loan with Serie A side Torino, to finally end their goalkeeping woes. However, the team must stem the bleeding before then.

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is also expect to return to the Reds’ midfield. Meanwhile, reports from The Mirror, suggest Divock Origi will return to the starting XI as well.

Tottenham on the other hand are riding a wave of success. Spurs haven’t lost in the Premier League since their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in early December.

However, Tottenham haven’t beaten Liverpool on the road in their last six meetings. Liverpool defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s side 2-1 in the League Cup earlier this season at Anfield.

Earlier this season in the Premier League, Spurs came from behind at White Hart Lane to draw with Liverpool 1-1. James Milner scored from the spot in the first half, while Danny Rose’s second have strike levelled things in an extremely even match up.

Sunderland vs. Southampton

While Liverpool versus Tottenham is a massive fixture at the top of the table, Sunderland and Southampton will contest an important match near the bottom. Sunderland are two points from safety after running riot last weekend, beating Crystal Palace 4-0.

Jermain Defoe is in brilliant form and scored twice in gameweek 24.

Southampton have been poor of late, losing five of their last six. The good news is Sunderland have only beaten the Saints once in their last six meetings.

Swansea vs. Leicester

Swansea host Leicester in a cliched six-point affair in Sunday’s late game. Both teams are stuck on 21 points, one ahead of the relegation zone, and a win could propel one of the sides to Premier League survival.

Swansea have been the better of the two teams in recent weeks, winning three of their last five matches. Meanwhile, Leicester are heading in the opposite direction and have lost their last four games.

Leicester have dominated the last six fixtures between the two, winning five of six.
