Aston Villa Sign Defender John Terry to One-Year Contract

Aston Villa have signed former Chelsea defender John Terry to a one-year contract after the Blues did not renew Terry’s contract this summer following 19 seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Terry arrives at Aston Villa as the team look to make a return to the Premier League. The defender had attracted interest from teams from the Premier League, Chinese Super League and Major League Soccer, but ultimately chose Aston Villa due to the project headed by manager Steve Bruce.

After the announcement was made, Terry spoke to the Aston Villa website and talked about his admiration for the club.

“It’s a club I have admired from afar for many years – there are fantastic facilities at Bodymoor Heath, Villa Park is one of the finest stadiums in the country and there’s a good group of players here, with an experienced and successful manager in Steve Bruce.

“I can’t wait to get started now and look to help the squad achieve something special this season.”

The former Chelsea defender won the 2005 PFA Player of the Year award along with 78 caps for England. He becomes the team’s first signing of the summer.
