Everton Set to Announce Next Major Signing

After a long chase and series of negotiations, Everton are expected to announce the signing of Gylfi Sigurdssson in a deal worth £45 million.

Sigurdsson, 27, has been the subject of much transfer discussion over the summer, with Everton and Leicester City the main rivals for his signature. It has been the Toffees though whom have come through, and although Swansea City, Sigurdsson’s current employers, have been holding out for £50 million, it is understood they have accepted Everton’s £45 million offer, being £40 million up front with £5m worth of add ons.

It represents another main capture for Everton boss Ronald Koeman and takes their summer spending to over £130 million. Their transfer market activity may yet not be finished either, with Arsenal centre forward Olivier Giroud high on their shopping list, with Leicester forward Islam Slimani their contingency should Giroud decide to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Speculation also continues about Everton home grown hero Ross Barkley, who’s future remains unclear at Goodison Park, with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the hunt for the attacking midfielder….Manchester United and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation, but it is the two North London clubs who appear best placed to sign the unsettled England international.
