Bayern Munich set to raid Tottenham Hotspur for star

Bayern Munich are set to test the ‘resolve’ of Tottenham Hotspur by offering them £50 million for unsettled midfielder Eric Dier.

Dier, 23, was ‘desperate’ to join Manchester United earlier in the summer, but the Tottenham board and manager Mauricio Pochettino stood firm in their valuation of Dier which United would not meet, and they instead purchased Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.

But Bayern Munich are prepared to slap £50 million on the table and feel they have a more than reasonable chance of landing their man.

Tottenham have so far failed to bring in any new players over the summer, with Pochettino’s hands tied because of the clubs financial investment in the rebuilding of White Hart Lane. They have been linked with several players but, despite already receiving £50 million for Kyle Walker from Manchester City, they have not been able to finalize any deals – and though they would prefer not to lose Dier, this amount, from a non Premier League team, may be too hard to turn down.

Spurs paid Sporting Lisbon just £4 million for Dier, back in 2014, and his rise has been astronomical, breaking through into the England squad a year later and being an ever present member since.

Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti has been a long term admirer of Dier, and feels the time is right to make a serious move for the versatile midfielder, who will surely fancy a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Should the move happen, Dier will be only the second English player to play for Bayern Munich in modern times, after Owen Hargreaves made his name there before Manchester United took him to Old Trafford.
