Paris Saint-Germain’s £199 million purchase of Neymar from Barcelona raised plenty of eyebrows around the world, but the club have partly justified their move for the star as PSG sold 10,000 Neymar shirts in one day.
One UK football shirt outlet is currently selling Neymar replica shirts for £64.99, which isn’t cheap in the modern world of football jerseys. However, the player’s official PSG shirt on the club’s website is being sold for a whopping £140.00. The one day sales of Neymar shirts equates to £1.4m.
PSG need to get in line with Financial Fair Play rules after their outlay for Neymar, and the selling of shirts and fringe players can afford them the chance to get within the rules.
This week, PSG allowed last summer’s signing Jese to leave the club for Stoke City on a season-long loan. He cost the team £22m and really factored down the stretch last season.
In late July, Sports Illustrated reported that UEFA told PSG they had to sell over £100m worth of players to justify signing of Neymar. Marco Verratti, Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura were all linked with moves away, but all three are key players to the Parisian side.
