The Italians will most likely take Mustafi on loan with a mandatory buy close inserted into the deal. The sale of Mustafi comes on the heels of Arsenal agreeing to sell Gabriel to Valencia.

The Gunners aren’t expected to replace Mustafi with a like for like central defender this transfer window as Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding, Callum Chambers and Laurent Koscielny will be used as the team’s main centre-backs.

Reports from the Daily Star indicate Mustafi hasn’t clicked with his teammates, which is why the big defender wants to leave the Emirates before the transfer window closes. It is believed Mustafi’s sale will be officially signed off by Arsene Wenger if the club can recoup all of the money spent to sign him.

Although Inter are the front runners to ink a deal with Mustafi, Juventus are also considering a move for the German international.

While Arsenal won’t sign another central defender, the Gunners are still looking for other players to strengthen the side.
