West Ham lose defender Collins for the next month, Bilic still in charge

West Ham received terrible news to start the week as defender James Collins has been ruled out for the next month with an injury. It isn’t a great way to start the week for manager Slaven Bilic, who is still on the bubble with his job at the London Stadium.

Sky Bet still has Hammers’ manager Bilic listed with the best odds for the next manager to be sacked in the Premier League. Although some reports indicate Ronald Koeman has taken over that honour with several sportsbooks.

West Ham are unbeaten in their last two matches, although Saturday’s 0-0 draw against West Brom did little to excite Hammers’ supporters.

Collins was helped off the pitch on Saturday at West Brom with an injured ankle. Reports indicate Collins could have ligament damage to his ankle, but that is still to be determined. The 34-year-old defender had featured in three of West Ham’s five matches this term.

The team will be in action in midweek against Bolton in the EFL Cup. When Premier League play resumes next weekend, West Ham will welcome Tottenham to the London Stadium.

In a recent interview, Bilic was adamant West Ham still haven’t recovered from their awful start despite being unbeaten in two straight fixtures.

“We can’t say we’ve turned the season around. It’s too early to say this,” Bilic explained. “But we get the confidence back and get the pattern back. We definitely have something to be positive about.

“To have two clean sheets is very important for the whole team. Hopefully, we are going to do better in the last third of the pitch.”

West Ham are currently 17th with just four points from a possible 15. The club are just above the relegation zone thanks to a better goal difference.
