Arsenal to take offers in January for star player – but its NOT Sanchez!!!

Reports suggest that Arsenal are prepared to listen to offers for their German international Mesut Ozil to avoid losing him for nothing when his current contract expires at the Emirates Stadium.

The Daily Mail reports that with extended contract negotiations at a standstill, Arsenal will invite offers for the player, who will have just 6 months left on his current deal when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

Arsenal paid over £42m for Ozil back in 2013 from Real Madrid, but has polarised Gunners fans with some frustrating and inconsistent spells for his club. Indeed, Arsenal have won four games out of five whilst Ozil is sidelined with an injury.

The news will alert many clubs, both domestically and internationally, with Inter Milan likely to be installed as favourites to capture Ozil – as always, Arsenal will be reluctant to let one of their marquee names go to a Premier League rival, although Jose Mourinho will most certainly look to pressure that by declaring an interest to take him to Old Trafford.

Ozil is now 28 and will still be a very marketable proposition for the Gunners, although it feels a reach to suggest they can recoup the fee paid to Los Blancos for him. Arsenal fans though will feel very uncomfortable of the thought of losing both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez next year though, with no known replacements apparently lined up for them, as they struggle to keep pace with their Premier League rivals this season and, as seems ever more likely, beyond as well.
