Chelsea manager Antonio Conte disappointed and angry after Champions League loss

Chelsea were defeated 3-0 by Roma in Tuesday night’s Champions League group C match. The Italian side were up within 39 seconds thanks to a goal from Stephan El Shaarawy. The Italian doubled Roma’s lead just before the half and Diego Perotti sealed the victory in the second half. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was said to be both disappointed and angry with Chelsea’s performance following the loss.

Antonio Conte: disappointed and angry

Chelsea’s loss puts them second in the group C table. However, Chelsea did benefit from Atletico Madrid’s poor showing against Qarabag. The Spanish side finished 1-1 in their fourth match, and are still winless in the group. Chelsea remain four points ahead of Atletico.

Despite the news the team are still four points ahead of their Spanish rivals, Conte wasn’t happy with the team’s showing. In an interview with beIN Sports, defender Antonio Rudiger was asked whether Conte was more ‘disappointed or angry’ with the showing.

“Both, it’s normal, it’s normal for him,” Rudiger said.

“For everyone, this was an important game and we lost it. It’s out of our hands, of course, the coach is angry and disappointed – everyone has to be.”

Can Chelsea bounce back?

Chelsea will play Manchester United on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. A loss could see the Blues as many as 12 points off of first place.

The team’s defence is getting worse, according to Premier League pundits. Frank Lampard said the team is desperately missing Victor Moses during BT Sports broadcast of the Roma-Chelsea fixture

“Moses is a miss,” Lampard said.

“You wouldn’t of thought that 18 months ago with what he’s given them in the right-wing back position.

“He’s [Conte] is covering it with Azpilicueta, he’s covering it with Zappacosta but it’s affecting the whole back five.

“And I think he will want to get back to knowing what his three is and working on it through the week.

“The players are going to have to react, because I don’t think Conte is a manager that will change his way. He might change players in the team but they’ll have to work.

“Hearing discontent about training, they better get used to it because he’ll want to work his way out of it.”

Champions League future

Chelsea will take on Qarabag in their next match in the Champions League. A win will take Chelsea through to the next round regardless of Atletico Madrid’s result against Roma.
