Now 31, Fabregas is hopeful Chelsea will extend his stay for another year. Fabregas has stated he is enjoying playing under new manager Maurizio Sarri. He hopes to remain at Chelsea and continue playing under the Italian.

“I’m very open about it,” Fabregas said in a recent interview. “To be the honest the club has not said anything. At the end of the day I have eight months left and at the moment I’m gone. But I’d love to stay at the club. I’ve been very happy for the last four years and a half. We’ve had great success, won many things. I think I have a good understanding with the fans and players. I feel I still have a lot of football left in me but it is now up to the club.”

According to reports, Chelsea only offer one-year contracts to players over the age of 30. Fabregas is hopeful he will receive a new contract courtesy of Sarri.

The midfielder joined Chelsea in 2014. Since arriving, Fabregas has won a clutch of trophies with the Blues. Fabregas has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a League Cup with Chelsea.

“I just came back from a difficult injury,” Fàbregas said. “I’m still sometimes feeling it a little bit. It is difficult to be sitting there and not helping the team when you know you could add something.

“Probably in a few years I’d like to go away from Europe and experience something different at the later stage of my career.”

Fabregas has played in just four games in all competitions this season for Chelsea. However, it is believed Sarri has the midfielder in his plans for the remainder of the season.
