Liverpool midfielder could join Leicester City in the offseason

Liverpool are likely to shake-up the squad in the offseason with a few players heading for the exit and one or two joining the Anfielders. One player that is destined to leave is Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana, who is out of contract at the club this offseason.

Lallana has spent the past five and a half seasons at Anfield but has spent large chunks of the last few seasons out of action due to injury. The Liverpool midfielder has been relatively injury-free this season, however, appearing in 15 league matches scoring one goal and adding an assist.

Liverpool have not shown any interest in re-signing the out of contract player this season. The club appear to be content with letting Lallana leave on a free transfer and several teams have been linked to his signature.

Leicester City to sign Lallana?

One club that could sign Lallana is Leicester City. Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers signed Lallana from Southampton in 2014. The duo could be reunited in the offseason at the King Power Stadium.

Lallana could be wooed by the Foxes’ qualification to the Champions League if they qualifying for next season’s tournament. Some of Lallana’s best football at Anfield was under Rodgers tallying six goals and four assists.

Leicester City could sell attacking midfielder James Maddison in the offseason giving Lallana are regular place in the squad. Even if Leicester City keep Maddison at the club, Lallana could play a key role in the team’s campaign in the Premier League and Champions League in 2020-21.

Lallana will turn 32 in May and this season, his legs have shown they don’t have the pace of years prior. Jurgen Klopp has played the Liverpool midfielder in a deeper laying role this term allowing him to rely more on passing and less on pace.

Lallana has appeared in 21 games in all competitions for the Reds this term. He has one goal and two assists. Lallana never made an appearance in the Reds’ Champions League matches with Klopp using the player in the league, League Cup, FA Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Leicester City make a great option for Lallana next season. The veteran playmaker gives Leicester City more attacking options and a player capable of breakdown defences.

Maddison, a player continually linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, has been more miss than hit in the second half of the season. Maddison has six goals and three assists with the latter total being far fewer than he should have tallied. According to Understate, Maddison’s expected assists are 5.15.

The English man hasn’t tallied an assist in the league since in December 8. He has now gone 13 games without creating a goal. His last goal came on January 1. Lallana could be the player to push Maddison and make him a better overall player.

Lallana will be one of a number of players available on a free transfer in the offseason. The Liverpool midfielder could be a bargain bin transfer for Leicester City or another side in the summertime.
