FPL Gameweek 33 – Top defenders for your fantasy team

Six clean sheets were kept in last week’s English Premier League matches. Picking the right defenders can prove a game changer for your Fantasy Premier League side. FPL gameweek 33 is getting down to the nitty-gritty, and selecting the right defenders for your FPL and daily fantasy sports teams can be the difference in winning the league and narrowly missing out.

FPL gameweek 33 top 5 defenders

Phil Jagielka – Everton

Total FPL points: 71; GW 32: 12 points

Everton defender Phil Jagielka kicks off our top 5 this week after a 12 point haul against Leicester. The Toffees take on Burnley in gameweek 33 and a clean sheet is highly likely. Burnely have scored the third fewest goals in the Premier League this term (32), and Jagielka is a solid £4.7 addition to your defence.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea

Total FPL points: 143; GW 32: 8 points

Marcos Alonso may have only tallied eight points last weekend, but it was still his best return in several gameweeks. Alonso and his Chelsea teammates had failed to put together a sustainable FPL points run over the last month. However, the lack of points seems to be over after the team’s win against Bournemouth.

The Blues are up against Manchester United in FPL gameweek 33, and Alonso returned eight points against Jose Mourinho’s side in their last encounter. Expect him to do something similar this time around.

Jose Fonte – West Ham

Total FPL points: 73; GW 32: 6 points

Jose Fonte’s inclusion in our top 5 FPL gameweek 33 defenders list is down to the simple fact West Ham play Sunderland. Yes, I’m kicking Sunderland while they are down; or should I say, on the way down.

Last week, I said captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic against Sunderland. If you did, your team most likely excelled. Therefore, I’m saying get Fonte in your team for this match.

Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham

Total FPL points: 96; GW 32: 6 points

Jan Vertonghen picked up six points last weekend as Spurs crushed Watford. FPL gameweek 33 sees Spurs battle Bournemouth at White Hart Lane.

Bournemouth have won just twice on the road this season while Spurs have won 14 times at home. Mauricio Pochettino’s side is undefeated at the lane, so don’t expect them to give up three points here.

Mamadou Sakho – Crystal Palace

Total FPL points: 33; GW 32: 6 points

Mamadou Sakho didn’t play this season until gameweek 26. Since then, he has put up some decent FPL points. In four of his six matches, Sakho has returned six or more points.

Palace just humiliated Arsenal, 3-0, and the Eagles are on a high that sees them six points above the relegation zone. Palace take on Leicester in FPL gameweek 33 at Selhurst Park. The game will take place three days after Leicester’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid. Sakho’s potential is through the roof.

Goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris – Tottenham

Total FPL points: 112; GW 32: 6 points

He may not be leading all FPL goalkeepers in points, but for me, Hugo Lloris is a safe pair of hands. Spurs have a run of fixtures against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace upcoming that should see the No. 1 do well. He will only set you back £5.5, so why not get him in your net?
